There is a generally accepted misconception that as we age, we naturally suffer decreased cognitive abilities. This misunderstanding has led to under- diagnosed psychiatric disorders in the elderly. An underlying medical condition may be attributed to “signs” of aging. With proper recognition, testing, and treatment, symptoms of clinical depression and other mental health ailments can be alleviated.
Geriatric Treatment Centers that specialize in diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues common in geriatrics, and that focus on restoring elderly patients to functional health, and home, offer a balanced mix of psychological and medical care.
SRMC’s Restorative Care Unit focuses on providing a unique balance of quality geriatric and psychiatric services within a personalized care program for each patient in our home-styled environment. Implementing diagnostic testing for evaluation, individual dietary plans, medical treatment, physical rehabilitation, and group counseling allows SRMC’s experienced and compassionate staff to cater to and care for the unique needs of each patient in our senior health care facility.
SRMC is close to home and offers you and your family supportive services and exceptional care that treat the whole person, contributing to the overall physical health, mental and emotional wellness, and the maintained social fabric of the family. Diagnostic assessment is free and confidential, and can be done in the comfort of one’s home, or at our hospital. Within our goal of stabilizing and then smoothly transitioning the patient for the return home, the length of stay for treatment is generally 2 weeks.
As we age, our physical, mental and medical needs change, and at times, we need help. If you or a loved one is experiencing a loss of cognitive ability, discuss this with your doctor. Early diagnosis offers the best opportunity to plan for the future. Taking advantage of the available education, care, and support services at SRMC’s Restorative Care Unit will allow for the extension of an independent and active lifestyle while enjoying the crowning years of life. If additional therapy is indicated, we are prepared to recommend further treatment options to fit the need.
Care that engages body and mind and spirit–the treating of the person as a whole being, is our area of expertise at SRMC. When you experience a need for the best of quality senior health care, our quality and experience will serve you best.
